This is fossilized coral found in lee co iowa, known for coral.
The cavity side is interesting to say the least. There is 2 cavities one tunnels down pretty deep. Kinda geodey in cavities.
Now, the overall turtle head shape with cavities as eyes, is similar to native American turtle Effigy image. Many artifacts have been discovered in the very location. But...I cannot say this is an artifact with certainty. Just thought I'd mention it is very possible.
Either way, this is a remarkable piece and a privilege to handle it.
